NHL BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING UPDATE
NEW YORK (April 20, 2005) - The Board of Governors met in New York for approximately four hours today, after which Commissioner Bettman conducted a brief news conference that included the following remarks regarding the Board's position going forward:

"What we have said consistently is, we're planning on having a season. That doesn't change. We're planning on opening on time. That doesn't change. What we're making clear, though, is the circumstances under which this will come about: We're still planning on going forward, we're still planning on opening a season on time, but we're making clear that we're not going to open on time if we don't have a new CBA with our players."

(For those of you who don't know, CBA = collective bargaining agreement.)

So far I haven't heard of any progress on a CBA - anyone want to bet on the season actually starting and starting on time? I don't. This sucks rocks. :mope:

NHL COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UPDATE
NEW YORK (April 19, 2005) - Representatives of the National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association today resumed discussions regarding a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The League was represented by Commissioner Gary Bettman; Harley Hotchkiss of the Calgary Flames, chairman of the NHL Board of Governors; NHL Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer Bill Daly; Boston Bruins owner Jerry Jacobs; Nashville Predators owner Craig Leipold; New Jersey Devils Chief Executive Officer, President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello; NHL Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell; NHL Senior Vice President, General Counsel David Zimmerman, and attorneys Bob Batterman and Shep Goldfein.

After the meeting, which lasted approximately 6-1/2 hours, Mr. Daly released the following statement:

"While we continued to discuss various issues relating to the concept that was introduced at our April 4 meeting, no substantive progress toward a new agreement was made. The parties have agreed to arrange a more aggressive meeting schedule over the next several weeks in an attempt to move the process forward. We remain committed to doing everything we can to reach a negotiated solution as soon as possible."

I don't know if it's just more buzz, but maybe the NHL/owners are getting to closer to an agreement?? I heard some snippets while away, and it does give me hope there might be some games starting up in October!! I certainly HOPE!! It would stink to go another year without the NHL...
