I run 3-4 times a week, 3-4 miles at at time & race in local 5ks, 8ks, and 10ks. Any other runners?

I'm a big runner! I run 5-6 days a week and average 35-45 miles a week. I ran my first marathon in December and completed it at 4hrs 45 minutes. It was the best time. I'm trying to cut back on my miles, I think it may be too hard for my body and me trying to figure out when I'm ovulating?? Starting next week my goal will be 30-35 miles a week. Plus it's getting too hot to run outside as much as I've been doing! Me & DH are running in a 5k this Saturday for the Race for the Cure. Ladies, don't forget to do your montly breast checks and get a mamo if you have a history. I had my first at age 30 and it's not bad at all. TTFN I'm off to run since it's finally cool!

pegbaden, you run more than I do, that's for sure! I've always had a normal cycle, even before I started taking BCP, so I'm hoping now that I've stopped BCP, my cycle will return to normal. We will see.
I ran in the race for the cure here-over 7,000 people showed up! It was awesome-unlike any other race I'd ever been in! That's in Oct. My next race is 6/18/05 & it's a 5k. :)
Hope you enjoyed your run-I've missed a couple of days because of rain. :(

BCP-birth control pills...sorry! :)
My next run benefits the Merci Clinic, which is a free clinic for medical care to people who can't afford it. It runs through the downtown by the waterfront.

Hey there! I have started to run, I started back in March. I run 5-6 times a week, probably about 2 miles. I want to run the Race for the Cure in October! This past year I walked it, but this time, I"m gonna run it!

Thanks!! Do you do the one at Northpark too?
Wow!! That is so awesome that your mom is a survivor!! Does she do the race? Same here! My grandmother and my Aunt Linda were breast cancer survivors too. My Grandma passed away 16 years ago from other reasons. My Aunt Linda and my other Aunts walk it every year for the past 15 years!
I really enjoy running, but I've been having to do it early in the AM because of the heat!

My Mom is the only one in the family that has had it. Knock on some wood. She lives in south Texas, so she doesn't join the North Texas race. Wow, 15 years of walking it, what a good tradition! I only do the Plano race since it's close. Sounds like you have a history with BC. Keep up your mamograms. I'm sure you know that. It's awesome that there are so many survivors! I've been doing my running late in the evening. I get home around 6 and don't leave until 7-7:30. I can't imagine what it will be like in July! I guess the treadmill will be fine! Have a wonderful day!

When we did the Race for the Cure last year, it was special to us as well. My Granddad has been battling cancer, not breast cancer, but still, it's cancer & so Dad & I ran for him last year.

Where in South Texas does your mom live? My brother lives in Mission, he's a band director there..
Anna, That's so neat that you ran for your granddad!! How special!!
So, I need some advice..How do I work on distance and my time? Right now, my mile is 11:15. By then, I"m huffing and puffing!

I would continue at that pace Celeste. It's a good time. I usually do a 10 minute mile, but as my miles get longer I slow to a 12 minute mile. That way I can run a long distance. Unless you are going for speed? I like being where I'm at. It is challenging enough and I know I won't be struggling. Hope that helps! I'm from Harlingen, TX. Down in the valley where your brother is!

In my 5k races, I do about an 8 minute mile. But that's only a 3 mile run. If I know I'm going to run for a longer distance, I slow it up to 9 or 9 1/2 minute miles. If you want to work on distance, stay slow. And don't work up too fast-I have been there done that & was down for six weeks with a stress fracture.
Of course, right now, until I see my doctor, I'm taking a break from running. I go to the doctor tomorrow & I'll find out if she still wants me to run.

Yeah, let me know what they say. My Ob told me I could continue until I was uncomfortable, or if I showed signs of stress. Me & hubby are unsure if I would keep up my running if I got pregnant, just to be on the safe side. I rather take up walking the same distance than running, seems less stress on the body? Let me know how your appoitment goes! TTFN

Well, I want to go for distance..Do you run the entire thing or do you walk some of it? It's hard for me to run a 1 1/2 miles without stopping! I am hoping to be able to get my distance better. Should I work on my distance first and then speed?
Yup, that's where my brother is!! How neat! I want to go visit him sometime, but haven't had the chance :(
Anna, I'm curious to see what they said at your appt!
How long have you guys been running?

I go for distance also. I start off with walking about 1/2 mile and then run 2 miles. I do stop if I need to, but only for 3-5 minutes. Then I start up again and do 2 more miles and stop for a few minutes then do my last 2. By then I am in my zone so I can pretty much stay there, but like I said...I do stop and walk when I feel like I need to. I would work on distance first. Speed comes once you can do the distance and be comfortable with trying to go a little faster. I've been running for 4 years now. I've always been a jogger, but I got into a real routine around then.
You should go visit him and make a family vacation out of it and stay at South Padre Island! It wouldn't be too far for him to drive to come visit you at the beach. Southwest airlines has some really good deals if you can fly southwest?
