If I can, I'd like to breast feed our baby. We're going to hold off on buying a breast pump until after the birth, because we want to see if the baby will be allergic to my milk (we have friends whose babies were allergic, and couldn't breast feed).

What breast pump did you use?

IMO, it's going to depend on if you're going to work or not..

If you're going to work, I'd get an electric pump. I had the Medela PIS and it worked great. I was able to pump both breasts and get a pretty decent amount in about 15 minutes..

I've heard good things about the Ameda Purely Yours, plus it's cheaper.

Hand pumps, I've heard the Avent Isis is pretty good.

I use the Advent ISIS Hand Pump. Completely agree with Celeste about work or not issues. If I was working I would probably have looked at the electric pump as its quick and efficent.

With the hand pump, I can easily get 9ozs out of 1 breast, and I usually pump when feeding. I dont express much,only when I know for definate I am going out of an evening, or be away from DS for a few hours :)

I want to go back to work...whether or not that means I'm working full-time or part-time, I still have to make up my mind. Getting a pump is something we can purchase during my maternity leave.

Was it hard to learn how to use the breast pumps? How did your babies deal with going from breast to bottle nipples...any confusion??

The ladies I've talked to around here seem to like the Medela pump, and that's the brand the local baby store has in stock.

Nah, it wasn't hard to learn at all!

As far as bottles, I didn't give her a bottle probably until 4-5 weeks? 6 weeks? (I don't remember :lol: ) That way, my supply was established. The only problem I had was finding the right nipple for her (she was PICKY about what kind of nipple she liked) AFter we found a nipple for her, we had no problems going back and forth.
