We have yet to childproof, but we're going to need to very soon. I'm thinking about getting a play yard to begin with for Jonathan and Jenna. Then I'll barricade the den and let them loose there.
What have you done for your childproofing needs?

When Seda was sall we did what you're sugesting Mina, we child proofed small areas at a time and gated her into that space with one of those outdoor play yards seperated into sections. This worked really well because then she didn't get frustrated too much because she had the run of the area. So as she grew and needed more and more space we expanded the childproofing radious . So now we just keep some of the doors shut (including the bathroom) and have the kitchen gated off.
These are good ideas. Start small then expand.
We have socket guards, DVD and VHS guards, a toilet lock, door slammer protectors, gates and a Baby Den which is used as a playpen and can be used to gate off areas. Also have had to put locks on drawers and cupboards in the kitchen.

Childproofing? What's that?
Seriously, I think all I did when Julian was really small was to get outlet covers and cabinet locks. I never put up a gate, never worried about padding corners on my furniture. Maybe I'm a slacker mom, but I figured I survived childhood without all those things, so Julian could, too. And we've never had any big accidents. He's always known not to touch the stove, wanted nothing to do with the potty until he started potty training, and never tried to pull the furniture over on his head.
