"Using 3 different meta-analytical techniques, we show that birth to conception intervals shorter than 18 months and longer than 59 months are significantly associated with increased risk of several adverse perinatal outcomes, such as preterm birth, LBW, and SGA."

(LBW = low birth weight; SGA = small for gestational age)

This is from a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, April 2006. (click here: the study (http://jama.highwire.org/cgi/content/full/295/15/1809))

The less than 18 months makes sense (nutritional depletion), but I thought the "greater than 59 months" was very interesting.

Well, if I have another child, I guess I'm screwed, as Julian turns 5 on Sunday. Add in my "advanced maternal age", and I might not even ought to consider it!
