Seda is almost 16 months and sleeps in her crib, in our room, for part of the night and our bed for the other part. We are working on getting our second room together so that it can become a playroom/bedroom for her but I was wondering. At what age do they start sleeping in their own bed? It will be a big transisiton for her either way so I was thinking that we might just want to hold off and trasition her to the new room when we put her in a bed. :dontknow: What do you all think?

Hi Jennifer! :wavey: Hmmm... must have missed this thread! Actually, I have been trying to figure out when to move Andrea (now almost 26 months) to a "big girl bed". She is still doing really well in her crib, and hasn't even attempted to climb out. Althouh, she is a peanut, so she's just now getting big enough to actually be able to climb (but don't tell her!! )
I can suggest that if you have the bed (and the room), you could set it up and try it for naps to start with, and see how she does. Make the transistion slow, so it's not a big shock when the crib finaly goes away. If I had the room, that's what I would be doing for Andrea (we did it for Victoria and it seemed to work really well.)
If she isn't trying to climb out, there is not reason she can't stay in it for as long as possible. :) JMHO of course! :)

I'm thinking about moving Julian sometime soon - he'll be 2 in July, and I worry that he's so big that the crib really isn't comfortable anymore. He can get his leg up on the top rail but can't quite get the leverage to hoist himself over it yet, so he isn't quite to the point of climbing out. I'd like to keep him in the crib as long as possible, though - that's like the last bastion of confinement, the only place I can put him and know he'll stay!

Julian moved to the big bed in January 2005, when he was about 2 1/2. He was just too big to be comfortable in the crib anymore. We made a big deal of it, told him when the big boy bed would get here (his grandparents gave him the mattress as part of his Christmas in 2004), said that big boys sleep in beds and not baby cribs, and really talked it up so that he was looking forward to the change. He was so excited about it, he couldn't sleep that first night the bed got there. I kept a bed rail on for a while, but when it got to where he could get past it easily on his own, I figured there wasn't much point. He fell out of the bed a couple of times - once it woke him up, once he just slept the rest of the night on the floor. And he was fine.

Eliot moved from his toddler bed to a twin size bed when he was 3yrs old. We're thinking of getting one for Ian later this summer to switch from his "little" bed (toddler) into a new big boy bed :aok:
ETA: Forgot to add... Ian will be 3yrs old.
