Do you kind of wing it, or do you have to follow a recipe?

I guess I used to follow a recipe. I'm a product of being in 4-H clubs (livestock and cooking/sewing). When you're a kid, I guess the best thing is to follow a recipe. But then I went through a phase where I would try out all different types of seasonings/spices. I cook more by taste, and will just try different things. Usually, it would be something I would eat in a restaurant, and I would think "Yeah, I could make that myself!", and I would try a few times and I actually do it.

Baking is the only thing that I really follow recipes.

It depends on what I'm cooking... there are certain things that I like to follow the recipe, but with most things I just wing it! :)

I do both. I've been known to improvise when I don't have the ingredients I want/need for something though! My mom is a "wing it" person and never uses recipes. My MIL is the total opposite - she LOVES to cook/bake but she always uses a recipe. She thinks it's just amazing that my mom and I can throw stuff together which just makes us both  because we aren't big cooks like she is!

I usually look at a few recipes and then kinda go with my gut on most things. If it's something I'm completely unfamiliar with, I'll follow the recipe.

I do both, I have improvised a lot of our favourite meals. I picked this 'talent' of my mom, she is a great cook and always makes things up as she goes along. I only really follow recipes if its something I really want to try out and unfamiliar with.

Baking I follow to a T!
