View Full Version : No Ultrasound

Last time I went to the doctor (May 6), we asked when we would get to have another ultrasound of the baby. He said that he doesn't like doing them until 28 wks (the last one we had was in the ER for bleeding @ 12 wks). His nurse said that they don't usually do them unless there's a problem. :dunno:
It bothers me a lot b/c I realize that some problems you don't detect yourself (somethings happen other than bleeding, pains, and so on). I'm hoping that at my next appt. on June 7, it will be a different doctor *supposed to be* and maybe she will have a different answer. I've also heard that doctor's differ in their opinions on when you should and shouldn't have one. I've read that you SHOULD have an u/s between 17 & 22 wks to make sure everything is going alright. Have I lost my marbles? Or is this something that most other people have heard or know for sure, as well? :help:

Hi! :wavey: A lot of times, it isn't the dr. who says when you have an ultrasound, it's your isurance. Some cover very frew u/s and others will cover many. Maybe you could stress to the dr. how important it is that you have another u/s to "ease your mind" and maybe they can come up with a "reason" you should have one. Good luck!! :)

I was just going to post the same thing. Maybe if your doc understands how worried you are since the 12 week bleeding episode, he might do a 'quickie' u/s where he doesn't have to charge you? My OB used to do that b/c she could pin down my babies' heartbeats during my prenatal visits.

I would also push for a u/s, I know when I was pregnant with both my boys that my ob did MANDATORY u/s at 12 & 20 weeks to check for problems etc, and when I was in his office for a standard visit he would do a quick one just to check position etc. I hope you find a more obliging dr!

I am hoping this next doctor says we can do one. I'm on Medicaid, which may have a lot to do with it as well - this clinic is for mainly Medicaid patients (I think). I guess that's another reason why they aren't too up on doing them.

We'd considered faking something to get one but then decided against it since later a real problem might occur and we could receive the wrong diagnosis or even take up someone else's precious time w/ the u/s technician when they were having a REAL emergency. Not nice.

I just really think that waiting until 12 wks prior to delivery date is a little bit long.

Good News!!!

Our doctor appointment went great yesterday...this doctor said that we should have an ultrasound (seemed surprised that no one had done one since 12 wks) and scheduled me for June 21st. I'm so excited. She said we should be able to find out the sex of the baby then as well. She wants to check on everything. I think I will start requesting her instead.

Thank you so much!! I thought I wanted a boy instead (so that when he's older, we'd have a girl & then he could protect her) but hey - younger brother's can also spy & annoy. lol.
We're excited!!

The more girls I see (of all ages) the more paranoid I get of all the things she can/will get into. Then last night I was taking a shower and it hit me that it's almost like I'm incubating my new best friend (now I feel like an easy bake oven). I told DH this and he said that it's better than a new best friend. Aww..he can say such sweet things sometimes.

Oops, sorry I didn't get this great news earlier! CONGRATULATIONS!!

I've heard boys are tougher when they are younger and girls are more difficult as teenagers. I don't know though, Madelyn is definitely much more demanding and high-maintenance than Logan
