Our first ultrasound...I think we were around 9 wks (it's been a while). Now we hear her heart everytime we see the doctor (once a week).

I have the same question, kind of. I went in to the doctor the evening of the day I found out I was pregnant (two weeks ago today). I was having pretty bad cramps on my right side and after having had a miscarriage in July I was freaking out that it was happening again. The doctor did an ultrasound and everything looked just fine. He wanted me to come back in a week for a follow up. I did. He said he'd be able to see the baby's heartbeat. He didn't get a definitive heartbeat at the follow up (one week ago today) and sent me to see the radiologist the next morning. Keep in mind that when I had the follow up u/s I was one day short of being 6 weeks pregnant. The radiologist saw the gestational sac (in the uterus...YEAH!!), the yolk sac and the baby. We also saw the same "flutter" we saw the night before. I guess the radiologist told my ob/gyn that he did detect a heartbeat, but it was low (100). I go in tonight for another follow up. I'm hoping, of course, that everything will be just fine when we go to the doctor tonight. Maybe it was just too early to get a good reading/? Has anyone gone through this?? This week has been so hard. I can't bare the thought of losing another baby. The good news is that I still feel pregnant and I've had absolutely NO bleeding or spotting whatsoever. I'm counting that as a good sign.

Thanks for your words of wisdom!!!
Love,
Melody

I was 11 weeks and I got to hear it for the first time at home because I purchased a home doppler. It was a very big relief because my last pregnancy ended in miscariage!! Good Luck!!

Hi Tiffani...
Thanks for your information. I had my 1st prenatal visit on Friday when I was 11 w, 4 d. We did not hear the heartbeat, so I freaked out a little bit because my last pregnancy ended in a miscarriage as well. The cool thing was that the clinic I go to had just gotten a new 3D ultrasound machine that day and the trainer was there teaching the staff how to use it. I got to be a guinea pig and had some beautiful pictures taken of my baby. He (or she) is just great. VERY active. We might not have been able to hear the heartbeat because of the position he (or she) is in, where the baby is implanted, etc, etc, etc. Once I got to see the baby moving around I was so relieved!! My ob/gyn told me to make my next prenatal appt for Feb 4th which is when the trainer will be back doing some more training. That means I'll get to be a guinea pig again and will get some more awesome pics of the baby. Hopefully by then I'll be able to hear the heartbeat, too.

Thanks again!!
Love,
Melody

So glad to hear that your little one is doing great! It can be very frightening when they decide to "hide" from the doppler! :) I never got tired of the comforting sound of the heartbeat!

Welcome to both of you to the AB board! Keep us posted on your pregnancies!! ( Consider doing a pregnancy journal!!!)
